Compassionate Warriors, Inc is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization and was created in honor of my son Trevor Gray. We are here to make a difference in other peoples lives. Proceeds raised are used to help the families left behind from the loss of a murdered loved one. Without an organization in place like ours, there are many families in our community who are in need of services but can not afford them. During this difficult time these families need to know they are not alone. We are here for emotional support, to offer our array of services, connect families with victim services, and to help ease the financial burden. We also do our part to make a difference in our community by helping the homeless, holding drives for the children in foster care, and helping those in need.
My name is Tina Gray and I am a mother to six. I have four biological children and two I adopted from the State of Florida while they were placed with me in therapeutic foster care. All of my children have brought great joy to my life and given me even more joy with the additions of five grandchildren. As a mother, I never thought I would have to lay one of my children to rest. Trevor was my baby. Only 20 years old.
On January 2, 2019 my son was shot while sitting his truck at a red light. Retaliation for a fight his passenger got into at the gas station, he had stopped for fuel just minutes prior. Although Trevor was not involved in the altercation, he was the one to lose his life that night. Trevor was shot multiple times and was transported to the hospital where he died 2 1/2 hours later. I wasn't notified until the following morning when homicide detectives knocked on my door.
As you can imagine, that was the worst day of my life! Losing a child is something no parent should have to go through. My baby was gone and there was nothing I could do to change that. They are correct when saying the greatest loss is that of a child! I will forever miss my son and grieve this loss. A part of me will always be missing, until we meet again.
While we are powerless to change the facts of a situation such as this, we are not powerless in what we can do for another parent or family facing the same tragedy. My son was a very compassionate person and would help anyone in need. Compassionate Warriors was created in his honor because I know he would want something positive to come from his death. Being told a loved one is gone and the grief that follows is one of the worse things we will all face in our lifetime. Whether it is emotional support, help in finding victim services, planning services or funding to help ease the expense, we here to do our part in helping our community. We are here to assist during times of crisis and tragedy.
Prior to Compassionate Warriors, there were no existing services such as ours within our community to help the victims loved ones with their immediate needs. If you are able, we ask that you donate to our cause. If unable to do so then please pray for all of those affected by murder and for our City of Jacksonville as a whole. This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires.
